Repointing and rebedding

Two different jobs on the ridge caps, the row of tiles along the top of your roof.

In the From $5k Price

Repointing

Pointing seals the edges of the ridge caps. Over time it cracks and lets water in. We remove the old pointing, clean the edges and apply new pointing.

When you need it: visible cracks in the pointing, small gaps opening up, or minor water stains.

Not in the From $5k Price

Rebedding

Bedding is the mortar the ridge caps sit on. It holds them in place. The caps come off, the crumbling mortar is cleared out and the caps are set down on new bedding.

When you need it: ridge caps that are cracked, lifted or loose, or leaks along the ridge line.

Think of a bathroom tile. The bedding is the adhesive underneath. The pointing is the seal around the edge. If the bedding is sound and only the pointing has cracked, repointing does the job. Rebedding is a separate job.

Tile roof restoration questions

Roof restorations from $5k. That price includes GST and covers a clean, repoint and paint on a tile roof. Rebedding is not included in the from $5k price. Every roof is different, so we quote yours after we’ve looked at it. You get a free roof inspection with your quote.

Three jobs: the roof is cleaned, ridge caps repointed and tiles painted. Rebedding isn’t in the from $5k price.

Bedding is the mortar the ridge caps sit on. Pointing is the seal along their edges. If the bedding is sound and only the pointing has cracked, repointing does the job. Rebedding is a separate job.

It depends where the water is getting in. New pointing fixes a leak that comes from cracked pointing. Paint doesn’t fix any leak. Tell us about the leak in the form so it gets looked at before anything is painted. If water is coming in now, call 0402 974 411.

It depends on the tiles. A restoration suits a roof where the tiles are still sound. If the tiles are worn out, the money is better spent on a new roof. We do both, and we’ll tell you which one your roof needs at the inspection.

Call 0402 974 411 if ridge caps are loose or have fallen off, mortar has fallen away, or water comes in when it rains. Get a quote soon if mortar is starting to crumble, you can see gaps, or small water stains show on the ceiling. It’s less urgent if the ridge caps look secure, there are no leaks and there are only minor cracks in the pointing.
